Free Cervical Check

Greenview Medical Centre is proud to offer a free cervical screening service under the HSE CervicalCheck programme. This service is available to all eligible women between the ages of 25 and 65 and is conducted by our experienced GP.

What is Cervical Screening? Cervical screening, also known as a smear test or Pap smear, is a straightforward procedure that checks the health of the cervix (the lower part of the womb) by detecting abnormal cells. Early detection of these cells can prevent cervical cancer from developing, making this test an important aspect of women’s healthcare.

Who Can Avail of the Free Cervical Check? All women aged 25-65 who are registered with CervicalCheck can avail of this service at no cost. The frequency of testing is based on age and previous results:

1. Ages 25-29: Every 3 years.
2. Ages 30-65: Every 5 years (depending on previous screening history and results).
   
   

The Process:

1. Booking the Appointment: Contact our reception team to book an appointment with our GP, specifying that it is for the CervicalCheck programme. Alternatively, you can book your appointment online through our website for your convenience. 
2. During the Visit: The GP will explain the procedure and answer any questions. The test involves taking a small sample of cells from the cervix using a soft brush. It is a quick and generally painless process that takes only a few minutes.
3. Results and Follow-Up: The sample is sent to a laboratory for analysis, and you will receive your results directly from CervicalCheck. If any abnormal cells are detected, the GP will discuss appropriate next steps and arrange a referral if needed. 

   This service is designed to be easily accessible and supportive, ensuring that every eligible woman can take advantage of this critical preventive health measure.
